apartamento captures charisma

American writer Glenn O'Brien's apartment
English musician Florence Welch's home

Apartamento is a wonderful interior style (and life style) magazine that I would love to write for someday. Above is two short films from a collaboration they did with Nowness. Each film features charismatic interviews and footage taken inside the homes of beautifully spoken and slightly eccentric celebrities.

the loft

I am only in Dunedin for two and a bit weeks longer before a brief stint in Wellington and then China! My remaining time here would have been even shorter if I hadn't found a spare room in a lovely loft-type flat on the other side of town. The people here have been wonderful and I can't believe how brief my stay is with them. Above are a few photos of the very cool space that they have set up - it's charming!

the attic attack

The other night I walked my flatmate, Adrian, to The Attic ("a sonic and visual research bureau" that is literally in an attic)! I had intended to drop him off so he could get some work done, but instead I explored the dark, cabin-like place that is filled with wonderful music equipment (including a small guitar pedal-making cave), designs, and details. Filled with shadows and strange ambivalent sound from the disco on the building's bottom floor, The Attic is a moody and enchanting place on a dark night.

take one capsule

I have been back in Dunedin for a week and it has rained almost the entire time, but at least the poor weather means I can make play displays in my bedroom all day!

summer dreaming

Another time spent on Great Barrier Island has come to an end. I am now dreaming of the quietness, the clear night skies and the soft sunlight that falls across the house's wooden floors in the late afternoon.

andrew missen's furniture mission

Among the myriad of fantastic furniture that fills my parents' apartment are these Andrew Missen chairs. My parents bought them from this tiny and wonderful furniture store called Nidus Furniture (in Newtown, Wellington).

the living room

Sandy treats our home like an art gallery - she has an excellent curatorial eye.

candywhistle

I just briefly met the designer & builder behind the fantastic Wellington furniture company 'Candywhistle'. The two were dropping off a new day lounge that Sandy had ordered for her apartment. After the few words we exchanged and scrolling through their website I realised how charming, young and absolutely talented the Candywhistle team are and how one day I hope be a part of a project like that!

P.S. the photos above are also from the Candywhistle website.

how to have taste in a flatting situation: be C.D.

Secret shots of a very wonderful friend's very wonderful bedroom. Don't you wish you could convey this much taste in such a small place?
